Flash meticulously searches for qualified coaches that have a passion for coaching fundamentals, but more importantly, are kind, positive people that care most about the development of each team member as a person and player.  Our experienced coaching staff has over 40 years of combined college playing and coaching experience to help bring your game to the next level.


Dave McAbee

Director of WBB

Dave McAbee has been the Director of Women’s Basketball since Winter 2019 recognizing the need for a program that keeps young women in competitive athletics through high school, while giving them a gold standard basketball education.  Dave has coached multiple levels of Flash boy’s and girl’s teams, as well as written the FLASH basketball coaching curriculum.  McAbee started working regularly with female basketball players as a manager for the University of Washington Women’s Basketball team in the late 90’s.  After college, he attended Santa Clara University School of Law where he worked with athletes and coaches from Santa Clara University Men’s basketball team and alumni of the Stanford University Basketball Team.  Dave is a co-owner of the Flash Skills Academy, an attorney at Intel Corporation, and a dad of boy/girl 10-year-old twins Kellan and Rowynn.


Marquis Matthews

Associate Director Boys Basketball

Marquis Matthews Has Coached with Oregon Flash since Winter 2019. He’s worked with 7-9thgrade boys & girls. He has a strong passion for the sport and loves helping kids with their development in Attitude, Mindset, Work Ethic & Basketball Skillset. Originally from Tacoma Washington, he began his Collegiate basketball career at Pierce Community College. He then transferred to Concordia University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Sports Science.  After graduation, he Joined the staff at Concordia where he spent 5 seasons on the sideline as an Assistant & Associate Head Coach.


Tim Whittle

Boys and Girls Coach

Tim Whittle has coached with the Oregon Flash since 2019 on both the boys and girls side, including our 5/6th grade boys, 4/5 girls and HS girls teams. He is the Director of Flash Skills Academy, has led our first outdoor camps and loves helping players improve and develop strong fundamentals. He is currently the boys' varsity basketball coach at Catlin Gabel School. Whittle is a former 17-year men's college basketball coach across the country with stops at Macalester College (MN), Washington University in St. Louis and Sewanee: The University of the South (TN).  As a player, Tim was a four-year letter-winner at Washington University, helping the Bears to a 79-27 record and two NCAA playoff appearances including a 1996 Elite Eight. Whittle received a Master’s in Education degree in 2008 from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. He lives in SW Portland with his wife Beth (20 year college swim coach) and two kids, Summer (11) and Banks (9).

Darian Slaga

Head Coach

Darian Slaga has been coaching with the women’s side of Oregon Flash since May of 2020. She has worked with a range of ages from 2nd grade to HS. Darian is originally from Phoenix, Arizona. Coming out of high school she earned a scholarship to play Division 1 basketball at the University of Portland. There, she went on to join the 1,000 point club, received all West Coast Conference accolades and represented her team as Captain her junior and senior years. She has coached both boys and girls youth teams but serves mainly as a coach for our women’s side. Darian brings a strong focus towards fundamentals, discipline and accountability. She resides in Beaverton where she works as a full time nanny and business owner.


Gabby Bevillard

Head Coach

Gabby Bevillard has been coaching at Flash since Spring 2021. She is originally from Athens, Georgia and was a 4-star basketball recruit coming out of high school in 2013. She ended up playing collegiate basketball at Florida State University where she fought through multiple knee injuries and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Sports Management. As a coach, she has a passion for advancing individual skills on and off the court by teaching leadership, commitment, and setting/achieving goals. She interned with the Atlanta Dream (WNBA) while in college and currently works at Nike World Headquarters.
